Macworld: News: Epson hits another ink cartridge maker
[Jackens Blog] Manufacturer like Epson now put small chips inside the cartridges that both makes difficult for others to make cartridges that work with Epson printers, and also makes it harder to refill them. And the cartridge stops working with more than 10-15% of the ink remaining, because of Epsons calculation of how much there is left.

Sys Admin Woes: Common Problems
[The Search for A Good Story] Picking up where I left off just yesterday, and perhaps even inspired this wonderful post from Tony, here is a humorous, tongue-in-cheek (but 100% true) rundown of common problems sys admins face on a daily basis: I cant print If there is ever a phrase that will chill the warmest of Sys Admin hearts, it is this one. I dont know who out there designs the printers that HP and Epson and Lexmark manufacture, but somewhere theres a room in hell waiting for them full of old Full House episodes, rapists and razor blades.

Epson 680 printer drivers
[Peter's Blog | Redefining the impossible] Windows My Mum's Epson Stylus 680 printer wouldn't print, it would just flash a red light, no indication of what it wanted. The printer properties are supposed to show how much ink is in each cartridge but these have never worked under Windows XP when using the default printer drivers.

Epson Stylus Photo R2400
[Learning Community Group's Research Network :: Main Page] Nothing revolutionary there, and irritatingly, you still have to physically swap the matte- and photo-black cartridges. But Epson claims to have resolved several notable problems it had with the SP2200's blacks on glossy paper, including a gloss deficit, bronzing, metamerism (colors appearing different under different light sources), and the tendency of all the inks to show scratches.

Epson tolerates grey market goods
[All this chittah-chattah] And now, the manufacturer and the retailer themselves - the ones that sell the Epson product - are creating confusion and mistrust. It's bad enough to fend off misinformation from the competition, but even your own supply chain is filled with crap.

Five fab photo printers
[Learning Community Group's Research Network :: Main Page] They simply made it possible to print more colors within the boundaries in order to produce smoother tones and better reproduce colors. It's only recently that the idea of expanding the boundaries of the gamut has trickled down from professional offset printing (such as Pantone's Hexachrome HiFi color set, which added orange and green inks) to photo prosumer models such as the Epson Stylus Photo R800 (adds red and blue) and the Canon i9900 (red and green) and iP8500. Plus, the new Epson Stylus Photo R2400 and the HP Photosmart 8750 add extra grays into the mix.

New Epson Stylus Photo R2400
[SB Industry News] The Epson UltraChrome K3 ink set is a unique eight-color system designed specifically for professional and fine art photographers and digital artists who seek exhibit-level photo quality. Inspired by Epson's past generations of pigmented inks, Epson UltraChrome K3 uses higher density pigments to widen the color gamut. In addition to cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta, UltraChrome K3 features a special three-level black ink system that simultaneously uses black, light black and light-light black to create professional neutral and toned black and white prints from a single ink set.

Epson PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition
[SB Industry News] Both PictureMate models use Epson's exclusive archival six-color pigment printing technology for rich colors, perfect skin tones and smooth images that match the look and feel of traditional lab prints. This innovative archival technology also ensures superior photo longevity, including water- and smudge-resistance that is not available with other 4" x 6" ink jet photo printers, and fade resistance of up to 104 years in a glass frame and about 200 years in an album. PictureMate photos resist fading in a frame as much as two to four times longer than leading brands of lab prints and up to 25 times longer than photos from dye-sub snapshot printers.
